The concept of capturing solar energy in space and sending it down to earth is not a new concept but is now gathering momentum. Reports by both NASA in 2003 and the Pentagon in 2007 have stated that this is technologically feasible. In 2008, it has become financially viable to do so.
Space Energy Inc is ahead of the rest of the world in bringing the concept to life and as such is in the best position to be the first to generate energy from space. The project requires funding to provide a proof of concept and get the management team on board. With this in place it will be possible to borrow the further funds required to build and implement the technology.
There is a lot of information to get across and there is a danger people will be overwhelmed which would lead to confusion and inaction. It’s therefore crucial to find a way to communicate the message quickly, understandably and engagingly.
Cognac Solution:
Initial investor meetings would only be short and it would be necessary to capture people’s attention and interest quickly so that they are prepared to spend more time looking at the concept and / or take action quickly. Distilling the right 10 minute message was crucial. Our interviews with a cross section of the Space Energy team, technical experts, NASA team members and potential investors highlighted the key concerns that the big picture needed to address.
The key concerns of timing, technical and commercial challenges needed to be addressed within an easy to grasp explanation of the concept and reality of Space Based Solar Power (SBSP).
The big picture simply explains ‘the need for energy’ and ‘the implications of energy’ to set the scene for SBSP. Three blocks of information with explanatory images convey the basic information needed to understand how SBSP works. This then feeds into the ‘key factors’ which confront and acknowledge the challenges.
‘Next Steps’ shows the 6 step journey to success for Space Energy and its investors.
Results:
The big picture takes all the complexity of Space Energy and conveys a simple yet compelling message to the audience.
In addition to the big picture, Cognac created an interactive online ‘Discovery Presentation’.
